Finlay paint decorated chairs
Finlay paint decorated chairs
Rare set of 4 paint decorated Baltimore fancy chairs, c1810. All original paint, crest is bird on branch decorated, seat and legs have gilded highlights. Set is completely as found, no restoration only gluing. Original caned seats, some in need of replacement. We are attributing these chairs to the workshop of Baltimore John & Hugh Finlay (1764-1820). The form is considered “Baltimore chairs” and the decoration is very much like Finlay’s. I have found listings for crest decorations done with birds. We offer home delivery antiques shipping anywhere in cont. us for $275, insurance is additional. Our company can also do northeast deliveries contact us for schedule and quote.

Classical Mahogany Secretary NY or Boston
Classical Mahogany Secretary NY or Boston
Mahogany Secretary c1840, showing both New York architectural elements and Boston nuances. Secondary woods are spanish cedar which many times points towards Boston. Either way this is an incredible piece of handmade American furniture from the classical period. The veneer work is the finest we have had the pleasure of owning! Backboards & shelves are high grade mahogany veneer. Bookmatched choice mahogany throughout. The unusual deep groved 1" concave fluted posts have bookmatched veneer as well! Boxed architectural top and base (desk is in 3 sections). Three drawer base with period brass hardware flanked but columns. Top drawer has molded face and never had pulls. Folding writing surface retains old billiard cloth with greek key design. The surface can be redone in choice of new billiard cloth free. We can also do tooled leather which would be additional fees. The writing area has 2 slots for inkwells and pen section. Above this are two blind doors with cubbies and 3 drawer interior. The doors have stately bellflower carvings. The bookcase section has 1/4 mullions and arched top panels. The desk has been properly cleaned & french polished. An unusual item are brass escutcheons which screw into the drawer faces. Can be shipped anywhere in continental United States for $275. Also northeast deliveries available through our company.

Classical Chest
Classical Chest
Extremely rare Neo Classical tall chest with butler’s desk section. Rich mahogany veneers book matched throughout the entire piece. Ripple molding on each drawer, the top architectural pediment has a different molding. One drawer folds down to reveal a butler’s desk. The work surface pulls out with a drawered interior. The drawer faces are maple with mahogany banding and rosewood inlay. All the drawer secondary wood on chest is quarter sawn oak. Very fine dovetail work to drawers & case. The backboard of top is a chamfered board made to slide into place. The piece is from a fine cabinet shop c1835 from either Philadelphia or New York. While the ripple molding is many times associated with the Meeks workshop we are not sure that is enough to attribute it. It is very difficult to find tall chests from this era, we’ve never had a butler’s desk of this age or quality. Chest measures approx 37 3/4” wide, 18” deep and 5’ high to top of deck, pediment is another 2” high.

Carved mahogany sofa made during the classical period of American furniture c1820. A high end craftsman created this piece in the New York city area. Hairy lion paw feet leading to cornucopias support this just under 7' work of art. The rolled arms have a carved repeating leaf design which terminates in a rosette flower. Structurally quite sound. The back is removable and has a mahogany frame with carving and center veneer panel. The original finish has been cleaned and over coated for preservation. Classical Mahogany Philadelphia Sofa
Classical Mahogany Philadelphia Sofa
A beautiful classical American sofa, c1815, mahogany with new upholstery ready to go into your home!

This is probably from the Philadelphia area with swan arm rests swaying down to griffin base of an eagle head with lion feet. The crest is book matched crotch mahogany veneer over ogee shape. The back legs are missing some toes, since they are not easily seen we have not repaired them. This repair could be done at additional cost.

This is older refinish, nice clean finish with medium tone mahogany color. The upholstery is newer and quite classy looking. It is a gentle fine stripe pattern that blends in with the background. The upholstery has two blue stripes and yellow. Most photos it looks brown but closeup of arm shows tint better.

The sofa measures approx 73" wide, 23 1/2" deep and 35" high. The seat is 18 1/2" high at crown, 18" deep and 57" wide.
